CREATION SPIRITUALITY:
OUR DEEP CONNECTION TO
THE SACREDNESS OF LIFE

September 10-12, 2021 – Bon Secours Retreat Center

“I am one with the heart of creation,” we chanted many times during our retreat on Creation Spirituality on a beautiful fall weekend at Bon Secours Retreat Center in the green of Maryland.

About 40 of us gathered with our retreat leader, Rev. Gail Sofia Ransom, D.Min. Gail is a student of Matthew Fox, who teaches Creation Spirituality as a way to reframe our lives through the lifting-up of all creation as sacred.

We sang. We danced. We prayed our first Cosmic Mass, proclaiming our joys and griefs, inviting in creativity and transformation.

We met in groups large and small. Our discussions in the context of the Four Paths of Creation Spirituality ranged from big issues such as 9/11 -- 20 years past but still near -- to the most personal.

We created mandalas simple and elaborate. We hiked in the morning dew. We gathered on the Priests Porch enjoying the chill of autumn and the warmth of friendship.

Our closing liturgy centered on the sacrament of earth and the sacredness of our own lives. It was an eruption of joy in community.

Each year, the Community takes a week-end away to deepen our faith,
strengthen our bonds, play, pray and learn together.

The retreat is planned by community members and can include outside leaders as well as NOVA facilitators. Themes have included: Conflict resolution and peace-building; Music and Soul-making; “Into the Woods” – facing our fears and doubts and this year, 2021, Creation Spirituality.
