NOVA contributes to Afghan Resettlement
NOVA community decided in the summer, 2021, to take a special collection to aid with the Afghan Resettlement in our area of DC/Maryland/VA. Very generous, loving donations were made for this effort over a couple of months. After much research, the Peace and Social Justice Team has now distributed the funds in accordance with the Community’s direction to assist organizations working locally and providing opportunities for our members to "connect directly".
Homes Not Borders. This group sets up apartments for refugees in Maryland, and our own Eric Carroll is one of its volunteers.
NOVA Friends of Refugees at St. George’s Episcopal. This group connects people and organizations working to welcome refugees to their new home in Northern Virginia and assist them with resettlement.
NoVa RAFT, which stands for Northern Virginia Resettling Afghan Families Together. This grass-roots group has furnished some 200 refugee apartments in Northern Virginia. Volunteers now are needed to help refugees find jobs. Click on "How you can help RAFT" above to learn more.
Team Rubicon. This is a volunteer veterans’ group that helps with needs at military bases all over the world and is helping at all bases welcoming Afghan refugees. Our check was specified for the refugees at Fort Pickett in Virginia.
Mozaic. This group, which was helping refugees when they first arrived at Dulles, got our first donation.
Catholic Charities’ Migration and Refugee Services. Our donation was specified for Afghan resettlement.

AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR NOVANOVA Catholic Community is sponsoring a family of 5 from Guatemala that have been legally cleared to live in the United States while their asylum hearing is pending. They are now waiting for the work permits to come through before the asylum hearing. The 3 children are all in school and very happy to be learning English. NOVA members are teaching English to the parents. The core committee of 7 plus other support people are helping in many ways. If you are interested in donating to this project you can go to the donate page of the website or send a check to NOVA Catholic Community 10000 Winnepeg Ct. Burke VA 22015 ATTN: Treasurer. Please note your donation is for Guatemala Family.

Welcome to all
NOVA is a spirit-filled, Eucharist-centered, progressive Catholic community worshiping weekly in Arlington, VA. Members include residents from all over the Greater Washington DC area and others who have moved away but stay connected and frequently drop in from all corners of the globe. As we nurture our Christian faith, we work for peace and social justice and a more caring world.
Our commitment is to live a faith-filled life, enriched by the Eucharist, enlivened by friendship, and deepened by service to others. There is a deep respect for each individual’s personal faith journey.
We are a part of a renewed way of being Church where all are welcome, liturgies are inclusive, and decision-making is shared. We have a special sensitivity to those who have not been able to find the worship community they seek in a more traditional setting.
