It’s also important to contact David now if you would like to plan a community-led liturgy during the coming year. He also suggests partnering for a liturgy with someone who normally attends on Zoom.
The NOVA Women’s Journey Group meets tomorrow, Nov. 3, 4:00-5:30 p.m. The Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/6689434741?pwd=U21vc0ptTDNEMEhRWVBhRUJReEhhZz09&omn=81571054008
From Clyde: IEC Zoom Meeting - All are welcome next Saturday, Nov. 8, at noon to see NOVA’s presentation “How does an IEC like NOVA work?” to an international consortium of Catholic Church reformers. There will be a 20-minute video of comments by NOVA members, followed by dialogue within the larger group. To join, click on https://zoom.us/j/2429500175: Password is spirit.
From Markie and Kopp on Peace and Social Justice Needs: At the Oct. 5 general meeting, Dianne and Markie told you about the flood of rental requests at the beginning of the school year. With Dianne recovering from her surgery over the last three weeks, we are getting a clear picture of the hard work she and Eric put into keeping up with these requests. It has taken three of us in their place to keep up with the seemingly constant requests coming from school social workers for rental assistance or emergency needs.
For example, in those three weeks, NOVA has helped 14 families with rental assistance ranging from $300 to $3,000. An example from one social worker: Nataniel came to Virginia seeking a safer life for his family, and he worked several jobs to support them. He was detained at a traffic stop while driving to work and is facing deportation to Guatemala. His wife, Leonora, is facing unfathomable challenges and has been struggling to pay the rent as she was not previously working. A friend will let them move into her basement starting in December, but Leonora has to complete her lease and is requesting help.
Another example: Mother died this past weekend due to cancer. Due to medical and funeral expenses, dad is struggling to pay November rent. He plans to move his family in with a family member in December.
Once again, next Sunday we will take a special collection to support our rental assistance program, and we ask for your generous donations. During the coming week, you can also contribute through PayPal or by check to Joe Formoso. Indicate online or on your check that your contribution is for rental assistance.
Also, looking ahead to 2026, as announced by Joe during the General Meeting, the Peace and Social Justice Team is recommending that NOVA members think and pray about how much they will be able to contribute to the community for our fixed needs, for our regular commitments to social justice projects and for special collections. Please bring your pledge cards to liturgy next Sunday or mail them to Joe with your anonymous pledge.
Garden work for Ronaldo — Ronaldo Vail (father of our refugee family from Guatemala) is available for garden work. He works at Target, however, his schedule varies. Please call Ronaldo directly at 731-618-1459 to set up a time. He welcomes extra work around the garden and home. Please click here for directions to his home.
Food for AFAC — As always, please remember to bring donations of food for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) to liturgy on Sunday at Kenmore. Boxes of cold cereal, cans of low-salt vegetables or beans, canned tuna and other shelf-stable items are welcome. This is a social justice effort that Nova has supported for three decades, and the need is not growing smaller.
