Peace and Social Justice
To do all the good you can... By all the means you can...
In all the ways you can...In all the places you can...
At all the times you can... To all the people you can...
As long as ever you can.
― John Wesley

We collect food on porches and at liturgy to be delivered to AFAC, march and rally for urgent causes, take on Care for the Earth work, aid resettlement of Afghan refugees, and find ways to bring sustenance and peace to our community and world. So much gratitude for generosity of funds, time, prayer, and hard work. |
the NOVA Community
allocates as much of its resources to social action as possible.
In responding to the imperative to “Love One’s Neighbor”, these actions are widely diverse.
They include:
– Annual funding for 25 projects sponsored by individual NOVA members to meet needs locally and worldwide.
– Special collections to aid migrants bused abruptly to DC from the border. This aid includes a donation to San Mateo Episcopal Church in Hyattsville, Md., where parishioners are constructing facilities for migrants temporarily housed on the church grounds.
– Humanitarian aid for Ukraine, through World Central Kitchen and United Help Ukraine.
– Donations of money, goods and time to aid resettlement of Afghan refugees, primarily through NoVa RAFT (Northern Virginians Resettling Afghan Families Together) and Homes Not Borders.
– Care for a Guatemalan asylee family of five.
– Care for people on the margins in our community, including delivery of meals to Christ House; rental assistance and emergency need assistance to Arlington Public School families; scholarships for Dreamers; gifts of Giant food cards for families in shelters at Ramadan; gift cards for needy families at Christmas and the beginning of the school year; collection of money and goods for My Friends House in West Virginia; collection of books for Women's Prison Book Project; as well as needs periodically presented by NOVA members.
– Liturgies focused on service, educational components to inform the community on issues, hands-on work, political action, financial aid and assistance to local, regional and global organizations.
