Faiths Against Gun Violence

NOVA Supports...... www.faithsagainstgunviolence.org

Faith leaders call on President Obama and Congress to move quickly on legislation that would require background checks on all gun sales and remove military-style assault weapons from our streets.

Who We Are:
Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence is a diverse coalition of more than 40 denominations and faith-based organizations united by the call of our faiths to confront America's gun violence epidemic and to rally support for policies that reduce death and injury from gunfire.

What We Want:
In light of the tragedy in Newtown -- and in Aurora, Tucson, Fort Hood, Virginia Tech, Columbine, Oakcreek, and so many more -- we know that no more time can be wasted. Gun violence is taking an unacceptable toll on our sociery, in mass killings and in the constant day-to-day of senseless death. While we continue to pray for the families and friends of those who have perished, we must also support our prayers with action.

We support immediate legislative action to accomplish the following:
1. Every person who buys a gun should pass a criminal background check;
2. High capacity weapons and ammunition magazines should not be available to civilians; and
3. Gun trafficking should be a federal crime.

The Muslim, Jewish, Christian Prayer for Peace

O God, you are the source
of life and peace.
Praised be your name forever.
We know it is you who turn
our minds to thoughts of peace.
Hear our prayer in this time of war.

Your power changes hearts.
Muslims, Christians, and Jews remember,
and profoundly affirm,
that they are followers of the one God,
children of Abraham, brothers and sisters;
enemies begin to speak to one another;
those who were estranged join hands in friendship;
nations seek the way of peace together.

Strengthen our resolve to give witness to these truths by the way we live.

Give to us:
Understanding that puts an end to strife;
Mercy that quenches hatred; and
Forgiveness that overcomes vengeance.

Empower all people to live in your law of love.
Amen.
